In search of the perfect set of lips?

Certain features of the female physique have been considered to be attractive.  One of those features are large full lips.  No wonder women use lipstick to enhance the appearance of this feature and have for many years.

More recently volumetric lip rejuvenation has become a mainstream approach for achieving optimal lip esthetics.

Lips reach their fullness in our late teenage years or early twenties.  From that time as the lips age they lose volume and become thin and flat.  The appearance of lips is also affected by a multitude of other structures including skin, fat, muscle, teeth and bones.  Aging changes these components and contribute to a less attractive lip appearance.
With aging skin becomes less elastic and the sun damage contributes to the loss of lip
edge definition, wrinkles and irregular pigmentation.  Facial fat changes with respect to the amount and its distribution to the jowl line which result in loss of lip support.  These support structures frequently need addressing to prevent or correct the down turning of lip corners (the sad look).  Laser therapy to correct the wrinkles of the upper lip will improve elasticity and fine lines.

Correction and enhancement is available in the form of injectable dermal fillers.  Hyaluronic acid (HA) with trade names you such as Juvederm, Restylane and Teosyal are used for soft tissue augmentation.  They provide a natural feel of the tissue being treated and are a safe non-animal product.

It is not only the fullness that counts but also the shape and contour of the lips that are critical for optimal esthetic look.  The lips should be full and well defined and proportioned within the facial contours.  The results should last approximately six months.  Although product will remain for up to a year the volume will be depleated.

With the safety and ease of volumetric lip enhancement more and more patients are seeking those elusive perfect lips.
