ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A MORE YOUTHFUL NECK?
The neck is an aesthetically important area that often will reveal one’s age. The neck is subject to many degenerative changes such as loss of collagen and elastin, accumulation of fat and sun damage.
Non-surgical neck rejuvenation has an adjunctive role to surgery and is also an alternative to surgery. Many patients are choosing non surgical routes to avoid longer down times.
We spoke last month about UV damage, poikiloderma of civatte (red neck) to reduce the pigmentation and vascular matting with pulse light laser.
Other neck and aging issues we can address are:
NECK FAT
Excess neck fat and lower face (jowl) areas can be treated with SMART LIPO laser body sculpting. This will help improve the excess areas of fat and help tighten the tissue. One treatment is usually only required. A compression garment must be worn for three days following the procedure.
Lipodissolve is an injection which helps break down the fat. There is some associated swelling post treatment and a few treatments are required.
SKIN LAXITY
Non surgical methods for skin tightening use radio frequency. Radiofrequency helps heat the skin and stimulate collagen. The ACCENT RF is suitable to also use for the heaviness in the jowl area and will lift the tissue in the face as well.
Suture lifting (contour threads, endotine threads) is a method of lifting the skin by placing a suture under the skin to pull the skin tight.
Laser procedures (Pro-fractional) additionally help skin laxity. This would consist of a program of usually three treatments at one month intervals. This laser makes deep thermal injuries to help produce collagen. Micropeeling (Erbium) will help tighten the skin as well as help improve wrinkling and photodamage to the skin.
VERTICAL NECK BANDS
Vertical neck bands are caused by changes in the platysmal muscle which is the band of muscles from the collar bone to the jawline. This muscle, with time, can separate into the bands and this can be aesthetically undesirable. Botox can be injected into these bands to help flatten them out.
