ASK THE PROFESSIONAL CLEANER Les Graham

February 2008

How do most people select a good Cleaning Company?

By far, the vast majority of folks (almost 70%) who have hired professional cleaners used word of mouth.  That is to say they ask friends and family if they have had good results, and whom they hired.

I am a big fan of word of mouth referrals.  When I am choosing a service provider for my office, the experience of others is very important.  Issues like “how will they impact my business?” or “will they be careful around my equipment?” are the kinds of things most clearly demonstrated by the experience of others- as opposed to a claim in a sales pitch.
Having said that, many home and business owners fail to dig deep enough when qualifying any type of professional service. Carpet cleaning in particular, is an area where consumer education is the best line of defense against unethical or unqualified operations.  The Internet is a great source of information.  Search for key words like “professional certification”, “qualifying a carpet cleaner”, and “mfgr’s suggested care”.

Did you know - 6 out of 10 homeowners have never hired professionals to clean their carpets? (Harris Interactive survey conducted for the IICRC Nov 29, 2007.  “You’d Be Floored:  A Survey of Cleanliness of the Home and Indoor Flooring”) Many businesses and professional offices are in the same condition.  Why do you suppose many complain about the condition of their floor coverings?

According to the same survey, “4 out of 5 U.S. homeowners strongly or somewhat agree that the health of their family is directly related to the cleanliness of floors in the home”.  If you have similar concerns and haven’t yet discovered how problem free professional carpet cleaning can be, you owe it to yourself to find a reputable, qualified carpet cleaner.
